JOB POSTING – Imam for Baitul Mukarram Islamic Centre Calgary

Job Description:
Provide Islamic religious guidance, practices, and leadership to the members of BMICC and all Muslims attending the centre in Calgary according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessings be upon him) according to mazhab of Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaat;
Establish and promote educational and extracurricular programs for adults and youth in line with Islamic teachings at BMICC;
Lead the activities and programs to establish a unified Muslim community welcoming to all Muslims from different backgrounds and cultures within Calgary;
Engage with the larger Calgary community to promote friendship and understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims in the community through interfaith dialogue and programs;
Lead the daily prayers at the Musallah and give the Khutbah and lead Friday prayer
Lead the Taraweeh Prayers in Ramadan (20 Rakkat) and lead Eid Prayers and other prayers when required;
Provide funeral services and guidance, offer religious guidance and Consultation and conduct matrimonial services for the membership
Offer Islamic family and youth counseling and guidance as needed;
Provide Quran and Hadith classes to children and adults, Seerah and Fiqh lessons, and other Islamic topics to increase knowledge and provide for spiritual growth of community members, minimum 2 hours/day four time a week;
Serve as an advisor to and teach in the weekend Quran/Islamic Studies school. Develop and implement educational program for new Muslims and educational and extracurricular programs for the youth;
Work with the Management Committee on fundraising programs for the community as needed.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Islamic Studies or related field from an accredited higher education institution.
Fluency in English (Spoken and written), Working knowledge in Arabic (Spoken and written). Some knowledge in Bangla and Urdu is desirable;
Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic Shariah and Fiqh and Memorization of complete Qur’an is essential;
Previous experience as an Imam or Assistant Imam as well as ability to interact with and relate to youth is required;
Ability to teach Qur’an and religious studies and conduct regular educational programs will be added asset.
Other Requirements:
Must have status to legally work in Canada;
The Imam shall not use his position for political purpose;
The Imam shall provide criminal record clearance.
Minimum four (4) hours/daily, at the musallah for community members to seek religious counsel and guidance;
The Imam shall report to the President or General Secretary of the Board of BMICC or any assigned person on their behalf. The Imam must be aligned with the vision, direction, policies and procedures of BMICC. The Imam is responsible for following through with all decisions and directions made by the BMICC and/or imam committee.
